What Subjects To Teach?
Share
Hi everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to read this blog about what subjects you need to be covering when homeschooling.
As an Australian homeschooling parent, you need to ensure that your primary school curriculum aligns with the requirements set by your state's education department. While these requirements can vary slightly between states and territories, the core subjects generally include:
- English: Reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to develop literacy.
- Mathematics: Number sense, operations, measurement, geometry, and data interpretation.
- Science: Understanding biological, physical, and earth sciences, and developing inquiry skills.
- Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS): History, geography, civics, and citizenship, focusing on understanding society and the environment.
- The Arts: Exploring visual arts, music, drama, and dance to encourage creativity and cultural awareness.
- Technologies: Digital technologies and design and technologies, fostering problem-solving and technical skills.
- Health and Physical Education: Promoting physical wellbeing, health knowledge, and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Languages (if applicable): Learning a language other than English to enhance communication skills and cultural understanding.
It's crucial to check with your local education authority for specific guidelines and resources to ensure compliance with the homeschooling regulations in your area.
I find that the Australian Curriculum website is a great place to get ideas on what to teach. All the learning plans I write use the Australian Curriculum. Here is the link: Home | V9 Australian Curriculum
