What's Included in the Workbooks? Are They Aligned with the Australian Curriculum?
One of the the most common questions I receive from families considering my homeschool workbooks is:
"What's actually included in the workbooks, and are they aligned with the Australian Curriculum?"
This is an important question, especially for families who are new to homeschooling, preparing for their registration, or simply wanting confidence that they're covering key learning areas.
So, let's take a closer look.
What's Included in the the Workbooks?
My workbooks are designed to provide structure and support while still allowing families the flexibility that makes homeschooling so valuable.
While the exact content varies depending on the year level, each workbook generally includes a combination of:
English
English activities may include:
- Phonics instruction and practice
- Reading and Comprehension activities
- Grammar and punctuation
- Writing tasks and prompts
The activities are designed to build literacy skills progressively while allowing families to adapt the workload and learning pace to suit their child.
Mathematics
Mathematics activities cover a range of concepts appropriate to each year level, including:
- Number and place value
- Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Fractions and decimals
- Measurement
- Time and money
- Geometry
- Statistics and probability
- Problem-solving and reasoning
The goal is not simply to memorise procedures, but to help children develop mathematical understanding and confidence.
Science
Science activities encourage children to:
- Ask questions
- Investigate ideas
- Observe the world around them
- Conduct simple experiments
- Develop scientific thinking skills
Topics vary throughout the year and across year levels.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
HASS activities may include learning about:
- History
- Geography
- Civics and citizenship
- Economics and business
These activities help children understand themselves, their communities, Australia, and the wider world.
Health and Physical Education (COMING SOON)
Activities may support learning about:
- Personal wellbeing
- Emotional regulation
- Healthy lifestyles
- Relationships
- Safety
- Movement and physical activity
More Than Just Worksheets
Although the workbooks provide structured learning activities, they are designed to be used alongside real-life learning experiences.
Families are encouraged to:
- Read together
- Cook and bake
- Go on excursions
- Spend time outdoors
- Complete hands-on projects
- Follow their child's interests
- Play educational games
- Explore community activities
Homeschooling doesn't have to happen at a desk all day.
In fact, some of the most valuable learning happens away from the workbook.
Are the Workbooks Aligned with the Australian Curriculum?
Yes.
My workbooks are created using the Australian Curriculum Version 9 as a guide.
This means that the learning content and activities have been developed with reference to the achievement standards and content descriptions outlined in the Australian Curriculum for each year level.
The workbooks aim to support learning across the key curriculum areas while allowing families the flexibility to adapt activities to suit their child.
Does Aligned Mean You Must Complete Everything?
Absolutely not.
One of the biggest misconceptions about homeschooling is that children must complete every activity or cover every content descriptor exactly as written.
The workbooks are designed to be:
- Flexible
- Adaptable
- Child-centred
- Family-friendly
You can:
- Skip activities
- Modify activities
- Slow down
- Move ahead
- Add your own learning experiences
- Follow your child's interests
The goal is not to "finish the workbook."
The goal is to support meaningful learning.
Are the Workbooks Suitable for All Homeschooling Styles?
Many families using the workbooks have very different approaches to homeschooling.
The workbooks can support:
- Structured homeschooling
- Eclectic homeschooling
- Interest-led learning
- Flexible homeschooling
- Worldschooling
- Families transitioning from school
- Families wanting curriculum support
Some families complete activities daily, while others use the workbooks as a guide and incorporate lots of hands-on experiences and child-led learning.
Both approaches are valid.
What If My Child Is Above or Below Year Level?
This is another common concern.
Children do not need to work strictly at their age-based year level.
Many homeschooling families:
- Work above level in some subjects
- Work below level in others
- Adapt activities to suit their child's current abilities and interests
The workbooks are designed to support flexibility because every child's learning journey is different.
The Bottom Line
My workbooks are designed to provide:
✔️ Structure without rigidity
✔️ Curriculum support without pressure
✔️ Educational guidance without removing flexibility
✔️ Confidence for parents while supporting children's individual learning journeys
They are not designed to recreate school at home.
Instead, they are designed to support families in creating a homeschool experience that works for their child, their family, and their educational goals.

Happy Homeschooling
