Checklist and Outline for Each Area
Not sure where to begin? Each learning area includes a simple checklist and outline to help you stay organised throughout the term.
The checklists provide an easy way to see what has been completed, while the outlines give you a clear overview of the concepts and skills your child will be working towards. They're designed to help you plan ahead, track progress, and adjust your pace as needed.
Use these pages to:
✔ See the learning goals at a glance
✔ Track completed lessons and activities
✔ Plan your homeschool week or term
✔ Identify areas that may need extra practice
✔ Celebrate your child's progress along the way
Remember, the checklist is a guide—not a to-do list that must be completed exactly as written. Homeschooling allows the flexibility to slow down, skip activities, revisit concepts, or explore topics in greater depth. Every family's journey will look different, and that's one of the greatest strengths of homeschooling.
Workbook Page & Video Catalogue
Each workbook page is designed to support your child's learning while keeping lessons simple and manageable for parents. Activities build on previously taught concepts and can be completed at your child's own pace.
The Video Catalogue provides short, easy-to-follow videos that correspond with workbook pages (CURRENTLY IN A TRIAL PHASE AND VIDEOS ARE PHONICS ONLY). These videos are designed to give you extra guidance when introducing new concepts, demonstrating activities, or explaining how to get the most out of each lesson.
The videos are there to support you—they're completely optional.
Whether you choose to use the videos regularly or only when you need them, they're designed to make homeschooling feel a little easier and give you confidence as you teach your child.
Reading Activity Example
Reading activities are designed to help children develop a deeper understanding of texts while building essential literacy skills. Depending on the year level, children may practise:
- Reading fluently and accurately
- Answering comprehension questions
- Identifying key information
- Making predictions and inferences
- Exploring vocabulary
- Responding to texts through discussion or writing
The activities gradually increase in complexity throughout the workbook while remaining flexible enough to adapt to your child's needs.
Writing Activity Example
Writing activities are designed to build your child's confidence by developing their skills step by step. Throughout the workbook, children are encouraged to plan, create, edit, and publish a range of written texts while practising the writing skills appropriate for their year level.
These activities can be completed independently or with support, depending on your child's needs. Feel free to scribe for your child, complete writing orally first, use a whiteboard, or extend the activity with extra ideas.
Remember, the goal is to develop confident writers—not perfect pages. Encourage your child to have a go, celebrate their progress, and adapt each activity to suit their learning journey.
Mathematics Activity Example
This sample page shows one of the many mathematics activities included in the workbook. Each year level covers a range of concepts aligned with the Australian Curriculum, with activities designed to build understanding through explicit teaching, practice, and real-life application.
While this page focuses on number, the workbook also includes learning across other mathematical areas, such as:
- Number and place value
- Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Money and financial mathematics
- Time
- Measurement
- Geometry
- Statistics and probability
- Mathematical reasoning and problem-solving
As always, you are encouraged to work at your child's pace, revisit concepts when needed, and adapt activities to suit their learning style.
Science Activity Example
Science activities are designed to spark curiosity, encourage questioning, and help children make sense of the world around them. Throughout the workbook, children investigate scientific ideas through a combination of hands-on experiences, observations, research, and written activities.
Across the workbook, your child will explore concepts from a range of science strands, including:
- Biological sciences
- Earth and space sciences
- Physical sciences
- Chemical sciences
Many activities encourage discussion, simple investigations, and real-world connections, helping children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Feel free to extend learning with books, videos, experiments, nature walks, or everyday observations to make science even more engaging.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Activity Example
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) activities help children develop an understanding of the people, places, communities, and events that shape our world. Through a variety of engaging tasks, children are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and make connections between the past, present, and future.
Throughout the workbook, your child may explore concepts such as:
- Geography
- History
- Civics and Citizenship
- Economics and Business (where applicable)
- People, places, environments, and communities
Activities may include research, mapping, discussions, source analysis, and real-world investigations, providing opportunities for children to explore topics in meaningful and engaging ways. Many tasks can also be extended through excursions, documentaries, library books, or family discussions to deepen your child's understanding.
